River Sacramento I wish to find a river slow Somewhere to slip a toe and swim No fear of getting swept away Towards that place I came from Day by day it seems to fade The place of home and family Taken by fire and storm Only left with memory I was not there could not save Not sure I am brave enough Off trying to find work To feed that family There wasn't work close to home So I wandered met hearts of stone Asked for anything that needed done Finished that and continued on Now returned to ash and ruin Some tombstones they tell me waiting Engraved not yet and better left For my day of reckonning
